“If I just touched his clothes, I will be healed.” (Mark 5:28)
This woman had a menstrual problem for 12 years and had seen many doctors. No one could help her with the excessive bleeding. Not only that, she was left alone, deemed unclean and cut-off from people and not even allowed to worship at the temple.
Amidst the crowds following Jesus, her thoughts were intensely driving her into action. She edged towards Jesus with a particular motive. She believed she could be healed of her illness if she could just touch his clothes. At once, Jesus felt the touch and stopped in His tracks to find out the one who had unspoken reasons to touch Him with such intent. She came forth trembling, admitted it was her and blurted out the whole truth. Jesus acknowledged her and sent her off with His blessings.
The simplicity of the woman’s actions and the intensity of her faith driven almost by desperation made for a poignant picture. Would we express such desperate faith in Christ?
“If I could only have access to Him...” Of course, we all have access to Him. Do we treasure such a privilege?
If I could just touch His clothes, it would be enough to heal me! Would I venture a touch from the Lord to mend my soul? Or am I content to just admire Christ from a distance?
Desperate people may resort to desperate measures. Sometimes my approach to God is somewhat lackadaisical. If He hears my prayer, that’s great. If He does not hear my prayers, well, I don’t miss out and I can still make do. What is our attitude towards God when we approach Him through our prayers?
Every answered prayer from the Lord is a miracle. It is the working of a supernatural God who intervened in the course of nature and works it out to please His children. Am I desperate in my cry to the Lord? Do I persistently seek His answer?
